"Solink is a strong technology platform that allows us to manage our business very efficiently, effectively and safely, they make our retail life easier."

The Client:
Moose Knuckles

Since 1921, the Moose Knuckles family has been protecting Canadians from the cold – a relentless quest that founded Moose Knuckles Canada in 2009. Inspired by Canada’s most fearless animal, and engineered for the tundra, designed for the city. The brand was built on the belief that they could make the toughest and most luxurious outerwear and apparel in the world. The brand engineer’s Canadian know-how, grit and heritage into every fiber, stitch and zipper. They stand by the impeccable tailoring, ethically sourced materials and premium hardware.

Moose Knuckles’ relationship with Solink began in 2022 as the company was continuing to expand its business internationally. As they aimed to reach more countries, they needed a reliable security system that could grow with them, operate in multiple markets, and keep their operations safely connected. As a luxury brand, they also needed to worry about the security of their product in store, plus customer and staff safety. Solink was referred to them by another customer and was immediately identified as being able to meet these needs.

“As a brand, we're a high theft target. Security, safety of staff, safety of customers and our assets are really important. We had cobbled together different security vendors in many different markets previously, but wanted the ease of a digital platform and singular solution. We met with the Solink team and realized we loved the platform and the offering."

Their challenges

  • Being able to use a single platform across global markets that all stores and head office teams could use seamlessly and easily.
  • Having the proper alarm systems in place for optimal monitoring in case of break ins.
  • Implementing an easier way of searching for video footage and sharing clips with authorities, along with archiving footage for later use especially as the data load was high.

Fixing too many platforms, vendors and logins

It was in a search for a one-pane-of-glass system in regards to their security that Moose Knuckles found their way to Solink. With vast expansion internationally and rapid growth on the horizon, the idea of continuing to have to settle for different security vendors, different applications and many different logins was not an option anymore.

"It was a real business need and we wanted to have that consistency across the board. We needed to find a partner who we could work with that could service us in all of our growing markets, get us the access, the information that we require, the real-time footage, all that in one place."

Having stitched together many different security solutions over the years, it was time that they stopped the difficult processes and find some simplicity. It was the ease of a digital platform, the want for a fully remote system that could be accessed from a phone, laptop or iPad and a partner who could meet these diverse needs that was crucial for Moose Knuckles to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Taking advantage of a better alarm system

Moose Knuckles was in need of a better alarm system to address several critical concerns. If a break in was to occur or anything that may cause the alarm to trip inside a store after hours, it was imperative that they be able to understand as quickly as possible what was happening in as close to real-time as possible. While most traditional alarm systems can let you know something is happening in general, the alarm itself does not usually know what that something might be. This is how a company can suffer from false alarm fines and can lack monitoring prowess over their product.

“A big selling point when we were first getting to know Solink was that if someone entered the store and set off the alarm, there would be an initial investigation done by the monitoring service before authorities were called via the security camera system. If it was just a mannequin that had fallen over, police weren’t called and false alarms could be avoided. That monitoring portion was definitely a differentiator within Solink compared to other companies."

Having a better system for clipping and sharing security footage

Moose Knuckles faced significant hardships when it came to clipping and sharing security footage if an incident had occurred within one of their stores. Their previous systems were cumbersome and time inefficient, often requiring extensive manual effort to extract and download video clips. The process was time-consuming and prone to errors, leading to delays in accessing crucial footage. Additionally, the large file sizes made sharing clips with team members or law enforcement challenging, resulting in further complications during investigations. This inefficiency not only hindered their ability to respond promptly to incidents but also created frustration among staff who had to navigate the complex and unreliable system.

“Looking for a clip immediately when there is an incident, a known loss, is super simple. We can get a few different angles of it and send those angles to those who need them and it’s extremely easy. It’s also an opportunity to review it and use it as a training aid. What was the coverage in the store? What was engagement like and so on. It's really to say, hey, this is what happened, let's look at it and understand behaviors that we can think about doing differently next time."

Their results

Solutions

  • Putting in place an overarching cloud-based video management system that unified all their global locations into a single platform with real time access.
  • Turning their cameras into alarms with Solink’s video alarm monitoring
  • Implementing the ease of save and share within the Solink platform

Putting in place a cloud-based video management system

Solink provided Moose Knuckles with a cloud-based video management system that unified all their locations globally into a single platform. This eliminated the need for multiple vendors and multiple logins, allowing managers to seamlessly access live and archived footage from any device within the company. The centralized platform allowed for near real-time access to video feeds from all their locations, enhancing their ability to monitor and respond to incidents.

“What was most important was the ease of seeing all stores at all times and real time access. Time savings is huge because of the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall system.”

Video alarm monitoring

Solink helped Moose Knuckles implement video alarm monitoring, this upgrade was crucial for the company as their existing alarm systems were inconsistent and often resulted in false alarms or delayed responses. With Solink’s video alarm monitoring, every alert is accompanied by video footage, allowing for immediate verification of incidents and reducing unnecessary emergency responses.

Moose Knuckles benefits now from having Solink employees actively respond to and view video footage during security events. When an alarm is triggered, there is immediate accessing of the live video feed associated with the alert. This allows them to quickly assess the situation, distinguishing between false alarms and genuine security threats. By having trained professionals monitor these alerts, they are ensuring a prompt and informed response, enhancing overall security.

“From a video alarms stand point, if a break in does occur, the dispatch center can be talking to the police. Say there's two intruders, they're in the back, they're armed, they're not armed - in a situation like that they can be giving in the moment feedback to the authorities to support a safe entry to the store to take action."

Clipping and sharing made easy

Implementing Solink’s user-friendly platform has made clipping and sharing video footage remarkably easier for Moose Knuckles. They can swiftly clip relevant video segments and share them with just a few clicks. This streamlined process ensures that crucial footage is promptly available for internal reviews, training, and investigations. The ability to easily access and share video clips has enhanced collaboration among team members and improved the company’s overall response to security incidents.

“All our recorded clips are saveable now and it's easy. I'm not super tech savvy, so that has been an impactful part of the journey in security. Because our thefts can be major, we're talking thousands of dollars in loss at that moment, my teams know to immediately download the footage, all angles, incident report created, police report filed. The ease of anybody being able to do it and having that video footage downloaded and saved to be used is simple with Solink.”
